You Are the Missing Puzzle Piece: Finding Your Product Market Fit

Imagine a puzzle with one piece missing. The whole picture is incomplete. That empty space is waiting for something specific—not just any piece will do. It has to fit perfectly. That’s product market fit.

Your product is either that missing piece, or it isn’t. And if you haven’t stopped to ask yourself whether it actually is, now’s the time.

A lot of us start businesses because we’re passionate about something. We build something we love, something we believe in. And that’s brilliant. But here’s the hard truth: passion alone doesn’t make a sustainable business. Product market fit does.

So what exactly is product market fit? It’s when what you’re building is exactly what the marketplace needs. It’s the moment your solution meets a real problem that real people are willing to pay to solve. You’re not just creating something because you love it. You’re creating something because there’s a gap in the market, and you’re the one who fits perfectly into that space.

But how do you know if you actually have it? Here are the questions you need to be asking yourself:

First, are you building something you love, or are you building something that solves a real need or want of your customer? These aren’t always the same thing, and that matters.

Second, are your customers actually willing to pay for it? Passion projects are wonderful, but they’re not sustainable if nobody’s willing to invest in them.

Third, is there already an alternative out there? If so, what makes yours different? Are you truly filling a gap, or are you just another option in a crowded space?

And finally, are you solving a real problem, or are you just creating something you want to do? There’s a big difference. One is a business. The other is a hobby.

When you can answer yes to these questions—when you’ve validated that you’re solving a real problem people actually need and will pay for—that’s when you know you’re the missing puzzle piece. That’s product market fit. And that’s what makes a business sustainable.

The marketplace doesn’t need another passion project. It needs solutions. It needs the piece that completes the picture. So take a moment and ask yourself: Am I building that piece? If you’re not sure, that’s your answer. And that’s okay. Because once you know, everything changes.
